Gluten Free Lotion List: Top 5

Today, we’re going to be making a top gluten-free lotion list. We’ll be answering the burning question of whether you really need to use gluten-free lotion and what the top brands available are. There’s only a very small percentage of gluten-free lotions on the market, but from gluten-free hand lotion to gluten-free body lotion – we’ll be covering it all.

Do You Need to Use Gluten-Free Lotion?

Now, there’s no real need to buy gluten-free lotions if your sensitivity to gluten is mild or you do not have celiac disease. However, if you’re using lip balm or lotions around your mouth – be extra careful if you’re not using a gluten-free brand, as that can, of course, cause a reaction.

The amount of gluten in cosmetics is usually so minimal that it is very unlikely to cause a reaction. But it’s completely understandable to opt for gluten-free lotions if you’re more comfortable doing so.

It’s important to note that gluten can not be absorbed through the skin. However, if you have dermatitis herpetiformis (which is a common condition that goes alongside celiac disease), there is a chance it can cause issues if it gets inside open lesions – so it’s always best to be careful.

Ingredients to Look Out For

There’s a range of ingredients you may want to look out for when buying lotions. The ingredients that are likely to contain gluten (although small amounts) are:

• Hordeum Vulgare Extract

Anything that contains any cereal grain names such as rye, barley, wheat, or oats, will contain gluten, so alongside the list above, look out for anything containing or derived from those cereal grains.

Why is Gluten Used in Lotions?

Gluten is used for a few reasons, but much like in foods – it’s a great thickener. And is also great for emollient, moisturizer, and exfoliator. It also has links to helping skim firmness and repairing hair follicles. Who knew that gluten was so diverse?!

Not just gluten-free – but cruelty-free and organic too! They pride themselves on being completely transparent about their products and the ingredients they contain.

From eye creams to night creams to purifying face masks, they have so many options to choose from. And knowing that all of their products are gluten-free is very reassuring.

Green Leaf Naturals pride themselves on being a plant-based brand. Their products are not just gluten-free, but paraben-free, phthalate-free, sulfate-free, soy-free, and cruelty-free too. Meaning it’s suitable for a range of different lifestyles.

Keys are great for a range of products, not just gluten-free lotions. But sunscreen and face cream too! Their FAQs confirm that all of their products are not only gluten-free but vegan, no soy, preservative-free, and non-GMO. They also state that no matter how small a percentage, an ingredient will always be listed, as they are very transparent.
