What Is Cracker Barrel?
If you’re from the US, you’ll likely already know what Cracker Barrel is! Cracker Barrel is a restaurant that serves Southern cuisine and has been around for over 50 years. Did you know that they have almost 700 locations around the US?
They serve foods such as seafood, chicken platters, dumplings, steak, salads, sandwiches – and so much more. Cracker Barrel is a great restaurant to eat out at, and enjoy with all the family.
Does Cracker Barrel Have Gluten Free Options?
Despite it’s popularity, Cracker Barrel does not currently have a gluten free menu. If you’d like to eat at Cracker Barrel when following a gluten free diet, you’ll need to study their allergen and nutrition guide!
They do advise that if you’re highly sensitive, they’re not necessarily able to meet your dietary needs and they recommend speaking with the manager before placing your order. This way they can take any necessary precautions they can.
As the items are not marked as gluten free, there is a high risk of cross contact from gluten containing products in the kitchen, so that’s something to be mindful of when eating out at Cracker Barrel.

Gluten Free Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole Recipe
The hash brown casserole at Cracker Barrel is one of their most popular dishes. However, it is not gluten free. For this reason, I thought I’d share how you can make your own hash brown casserole at home. This recipe is inspired by one from Fave Healthy Recipes.
Ingredients
The ingredients you’ll need for this recipe are:
- 30oz of shredded hash browns (ensure they are defrosted)
- 1 finely diced large onion
- 12oz of evaporated milk
- 2 teaspoons of chicken bouillon granules
- cornstarch slurry (equal parts cornstarch and water)
- 7oz of low fat Greek yoghurt
- 6oz of grated cheddar cheese
- 4 tablespoons of melted butter
- 2 tablespoons of diced butter
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
Step-by-Step to Make Gluten Free Cracker Barrel Hash Brown Casserole Recipe
Now all you need to do is:
Step 1: Prepare
Preheat your oven to 350F. Whilst preheating, grease a baking dish in preparation for the casserole.
Step 2: Make the Sauce Mixture
Add the milk and bouillon granules to a saucepan and mix over a medium heat until the milk comes to a boil. At this point, add the slurry gradually and keep stirring until the mixture begins to thicken. Now remove from heat and leave to cool down. Now, add the cheese, onions, yoghurt, salt, pepper and melted butter. Mix well.
Step 3: Bake
Pour the mixture over your shredded potatoes and combine well. Now add the entire mixture to your prepared dish and place the diced butter on the top. Bake in the center of your preheated oven for around 50 minutes to 1 hour. At this point, it should be browned. If it’s not browning, try broiling for a few minutes to help crisp the top. Leave to cool for 10 minutes before eating. Enjoy!
I hope this post has helped to answer the question: does Cracker Barrel have gluten free options? And given you an idea of which foods you can enjoy when outing at Cracker Barrel. While there aren’t too many choices, we can keep our fingers crossed that this changes in the future, and they introduce a gluten free menu.
